Alfredo Jaar Alfredo Jaar is an artist, architect and filmmaker who lives and works in New York. He is known as one of the most intransigent and innovative artists of today. His work has been widely exhibited around the world. He has participated in the Venice Biennials (1986, 2007, 2009, 2013), Sao Paulo (1987, 1989, 2010) and Documenta in Kassel (1987, 2002). Important individual exhibitions include the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Whitechapel, London; The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago; The Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome; and Moderna Museet, Stockholm. Great recent studies of his work have taken place in Musée des Beaux Arts, Lausanne; Hangar Bicocca, Milan; Alte Nationalgalerie, Berlinische Galerie and Neue Gesellschaft fur bildende Kunst e.V., Berlin; Rencontres d'Arles and KIASMA, Helsinki. Jaar has made more than sixty public interventions around the world. More than fifty monographic publications have been published about his work. He became a member of Guggenheim in 1985 and a member of MacArthur in 2000.
